I own an airbnb. My recent guests left the house filthy. Trash piled over in the garbages. One of the bedroom was literally covered in drywall dust., every piece of furniture, ever crack and crevice. The bathtub was caked in brown filth. I easily picked up 100-200 cigarette butts throughout the front and back yard.. They left beer cans in the yard. A small chunk of drywall was chipped out of the wall. I spent double the time I normally do cleaning up after them.
Any advice on how to handle this situation? Can I charge them an additional fee?
Did you contact them about the excessive mess? I would have. Sounds like a nightmare!
I'm pretty sure you cannot charge additional cleaning fees unless it was specifically stated before the person books your property. You should look into the specific rules on AirBnb's website or message them. I have a friend who owns one and she had a similar experience. Do they have anyone you can call about this? i know you can leave a bad review, in the least possibly prevent those ppl from trashing another house
Sounds like you will need to take the loss on this one. Maybe moving forward you can protect yourself by including additional fees for things such as leaving cigarette butts outside? And for excess garbage or time to clean?
I did leave a 1-star review so hopefully no one else has to deal with this. As for including additional cleaning fees I will look into how and where to include that. Sounds like that will help.
AirBnB should also offer insurance to cover damages. Maybe want to look into that as well. Good luck!
