Developing a social media marketing plan can take up a lot of time especially if you are new to it. Here is a list of steps to help you create the best social media marketing plan.

Step 1: Consider your audience, time, and resources.
Learn more about your target demographic. Which platforms can they be found on? What kind of content do they look out for? What information is most relevant to them?

Think about how much time you have available to focus on social media. Starting off, it is recommended to spend at least an hour on social media and as your brand grows so does your time spent. Many companies hire an employee or a team to specifically focus on social media, but it is not necessary.

Check out your resources, what resources are available to you? What personnel and skills do you have to work with, and do you have everything you need to be successful?

Step 2: Create your profiles
Once you have decided which platforms are best for you, create your profile starting with a username. The username you choose must be consistent with your brand and all your other platforms otherwise people will have a hard time finding your page.

Next add your visuals, this would be a profile page or a cover photo. This should also be consistent with your brand and other profiles. It needs to represent your organization, it can be your brand logo, mascot, product image, or a team photo.

Most importantly, add details! This is where you describe what your page is about, what are you offering product or service wise? Be sure to use keywords to target your specific audience, keep it clear, snappy, and personable.

Step 3: Find your voice
Your voice must represent your mission statement, use it as a guideline. This is where you must create a personality for your brand, when customers look at your page what do you want them to think?

Step 4: Develop your posting strategy
Research other profiles similar to yours – which ones do well and which ones do not? This can be very helpful in finding inspiration for your content. It is also important to research how often you should be posting and what time of day is best. This information can be found online.

Your social media strategy should be constantly adjusted based on current social media trends and the traffic of your targeted audience.
