One of my earliest Entrepreneurial memories is when I was in junior high going door to door selling newspaper subscriptions. Despite having doors slammed in my face and being incredibly shy and introverted—I did it anyway. I was determined.
Like Dan Sullivan, the Founder of Strategic Coach®, says: “You need two things when you start a business – Ignorance and Courage.”
I had both in spades, and as a result, I ended up being one of the top salespeople out of 2,500 newspaper carriers… and I won a trip to Disneyland! This was one of the first Entrepreneurial experiences that showed me selling was an effective way to get what you want in life.
Whatever YOU want in life—whatever YOUR dream is—you can have it. On your way to your dream, you may even discover something better off to the side you would have never found if you didn’t keep moving forward. Despite the struggle, the pain, and the enormous sacrifice being an Entrepreneur takes… it’s worth it. Your dream is worth it. YOU’RE worth it.
Here are 7 lessons to bring with you on your Entrepreneurial journey:
- No matter what happens, good or bad, there’s always a lesson. Find it. Capture it. Appreciate it.
- Avoid toxic people. Invest your time, money, and energy into relationships that will serve you.
- Focus on producing more value and bigger/better results for other people – that’s where your rewards in life come from.
- Marketers, Salespeople, and Entrepreneurs are saviors. They are the carriers of messages, innovations, and transformations. Fall in love with marketing.
- Whatever you do, make it E.L.F.® (Easy, Lucrative and Fun) and not H.A.L.F.™ (Hard, Annoying, Lame, and Frustrating).
- To have a breakthrough, you’ve got to break something. As my friend Peter Diamandis says, “The day before it’s a breakthrough, it’s a crazy idea.”
- As long as you are genuinely grateful then you cannot be unhappy. Don’t take everything so seriously. Make jokes and have fun.
