As an Entrepreneur, you’re the rainmaker.

When you put yourself into an achievement mindset, you can go out, kick butt and take names. You are generating whatever energy you’re feeling.

You’re in charge of the “generating”. Strategies, business plans, business models- all of these are a series of certain ingredients done in a certain way that produce a certain result. Whatever result you’re looking for, you have to focus on, and do, certain things.

It’s a matter of what degree you’re willing and able to get your body to do the things your brain and mouth say they will do. We say, “I want to grow my business! I want a better body! I want to wake up earlier!” We say it. We think about it. But, our body doesn’t always go along with it. Getting congruence requires a driven, hungry commitment to do it – or – an outside force. For example, if someone you trust and are aligned with is willing to be a sounding board, why not do it?

As an Entrepreneur, yes’s and no’s are great; Maybe’s are what kill you. Sitting in the middle sucks. Nothing feels good in the middle. So, get to the other side.

In my own life, I don’t like working out…but I like having worked out. As Dorothy Parker said, “I hate writing. I love having written.” Getting yourself out of the middle is important. However, part of being an Entrepreneur means being in the middle.

Being an Entrepreneur requires stamina, resourcefulness, creativity and pursuing the unknown. As an Entrepreneur, you are willing to take all this on. But keeping yourself in that middle space (even purposely) is like Entrepreneurial suicide – especially when you don’t need to. It makes you depressed. Sometimes during these times it’s useful to remember what Kathy Kolbe says, “The time to quit working is when working is no longer working.”

If you’re tired and you’re not getting anything done – stop. Go see a movie. Get a massage. In fact, get a massage every day for a month. During this time you will think more clearly. Change your routine. Remember, the best thing about being your own boss is you’re your own boss; the worst thing about being your own boss is you’re your own boss.

Get people to interject novelty, excitement, curiosity or something else into your routine. In my life, I do between 30 to 120 burpees almost every day. When I wake up, I do burpees. They are hard, but if you do them every morning, they will absolutely change your state. Even if you don’t do burpees, do something to get into a flow state.

You don’t build an effective company being complacent. You do it by generating energy. You can do it through physical movement. Sometimes it can be music, other people, or outside forces. Other times it could be meditation. The point is: Get back into that state.

It’s your life. Rule it.
