It’s easy to possibly go a little overboard in the beginning when starting your new business. Which is completely understandable. You don’t want to skip any step, so one by one, you check off all the boxes, making sure everything is perfect. With all this eagerness to build a successful company you may feel inclined to hire an entire working staff right away. But before doing so you should spend some serious time contemplating if that is truly necessary right away. Ask yourself the following three questions.

#1 Are your employees happy?
Look at your current employee’s workload. Have they been receiving a ton of overtime? Are you hearing more complaints than usual? Maybe there have been a high number of employees recently who are calling out sick. Pay close attention to any signs of increased stress in your staff. If you are noticing more mistakes being made or unfinished work at the end of the workday, now may be a wise time to consider hiring some additional support.

#2 Are your customers happy?
Another area within your business you should consider is the customer service side. There are plenty of scenarios that constitute bad customer service, all of which can be damaging to your company. Are customers’ orders arriving inaccurate or incomplete? Are orders not being fulfilled on time? When customers complaints or inquiries aren’t being dealt with properly you run the risk of losing their business, now and in the future. This also goes for new customers. If people’s issues are being left unanswered it leaves little desire for them to continue doing business with you in the future.

#3 Am I using my time wisely?
Lastly, consider how you are making use of your own personal time within the business. If you find yourself spending adequate time on the simpler tasks such as answering phone calls, sorting mail, filing paperwork, you need to stop. Hire or delegate those tasks to someone else. Your time will be better spent focusing on the future of your business and how to continue growth.
