To say the work economy has changed since the Covid-19 Pandemic is an understatement; the workforce has completely transformed the regular nine to five job as we know it. Mobilizing jobs has become astonishingly popularly, if not essential for individuals.

THE ISSUE
During the pandemic, there was a 14% unemployment rate and 17% of workers saw no payments from employers (Giovanetti, 2021). This steep dip had a variety of causes from employees being without pandemic benefits, visa issues for immigrant workers, or the pandemic was simply an opportunity for many to retire early. Because of this, many Americans were forced to find other options for making money. In 2020, self-employment increased by over 800,000.

THE SOLUTION
Self-employment encourages individual growth and exploration while allowing people to monetize their “niche”. Gig work expanded 8.25x faster than the American economy as a whole post-pandemic (Pickard-Whitehead, 2021). The increasing demand for delivery is exponentially growing. The future of gig work is promising: 4 in 5 businesses are planning on hiring more gig workers with 50% saying they have already done so.

While unemployment is at a crisis now more than ever, the outlook for equal right opportunities for individual employees is looking up.
