You can be a good person, you can care and you can even do a good job, but you have to remember: There’s no relationship between being good and getting paid.
Yes, sometimes there is (if supply and demand is on your side), however, you can be the nicest, most caring person in the world and that doesn’t necessarily translate into people hiring you.
However, there is a HUGE relationship between being good, being a good marketer and getting paid.
Think of selling as influence and marketing as storytelling. Selling is what you do when you’re on the phone or face-to-face with somebody. Marketing is what you do to get someone on the phone or face-to-face with you properly positioned so that by the time they talk to you or your team members they are pre-interested, pre-motivated, prequalified and predisposed to do business with you.
Marketing can help you position yourself so you don’t have to sell your products and services based on price. You can use words to persuade people to want to hire you, buy from you, and think of you differently in advance. So, you can really think of marketing as selling in advance.
