AFE USA supports our military personnel, both past and present. And what better way to show our support to those who have served our country than to identify an organization that helps veterans return to civilian life and become entrepreneurs? Bunker Labs is just that organization. Started in 2015 and based in Chicago, IL, with chapters coast-to-coast, Bunker Labs provides our veterans a multitude of opportunities including an online Launch Lab, where new entrepreneurs can learn how to make their ideas a reality, and the WeWork Veterans in Residence program, assisting veterans in supporting their growing businesses. With additional locations throughout the US, Bunker Labs also offers various workshops, networking events, entrepreneur coaching, and resources for military spouses.

As part of AFEUSA President Charles Jackson’s student grant interview series, we’re continuing to feature some more of our amazing AFE Student Entrepreneur Award recipients. For November, our featured student entrepreneur is Sheldon Barrett.
Sheldon Barrett is a native of South Florida who grew up with modest means, but a lot of creative genius – according to an interview conducted with Sheldon by Forbes magazine in July 2018, Sheldon even came up with ideas for toys that his father would build for him at home! Sheldon is currently a senior at the University of Florida, pursuing part-time studies in pursuit of a degree, which he will earn in December 2019. Sheldon studies engineering, and also works full time running his company, “Cocovana”. Sheldon’s product, the Coconut Twist, was the result of his personal experience with the health benefits of coconut water, which helped lower his blood pressure after a hypertension diagnosis in 2012. This led to his innovations and successfully competing in incubator programs. Now he’s about to start shipping his new products!
