As technology has evolved, so has the use of the internet. It has defined the way of life. A recent survey concluded 97% of employers will go online to research you through various sites before determining you for a position. And 1 in every 4 people will use search engines when in need of a business. That is why it is so important that you present yourself online in a professional manner. Here are some tips to help you get started.
Create a website
a.) Know the appropriate language when building your website. Use keywords that are specific to your business. These keywords will then flag your website, which is helpful to directing consumers your way.
b.) Follow the recommendations used specifically to the Internet platform you are using. This will also help direct Internet traffic to your site.
c.) Include useful content that’s specific to your services. Keep your website visually uncluttered. Be sure you post relevant information for consumers that is easy to see such as your business name, address, hours of operation and how they can contact you.
Create a professional e-mail account
a.) Determine who you will use as a provider such as Bluehost or Outlook. Some are free while others charge a small monthly fee. Keep in mind it isn’t advisable to use providers such as Gmail or Yahoo. They aren’t as sophisticated and don’t provide the same level of security.
b.) Keep the domain name simple. This isn’t the time to appear funny or clever. Some companies will make it easy by using first initial and last name of the account holder. Another way to remain professional is to incorporate the title of the position the person using the email has, followed by your company name.
Build a social media network
a.) Determine who your target audience will be. For instance, it wouldn’t be very useful to use LinkedIn if your target audience are children.
b.) Let the world know you are on social media! This is an excellent way to reach your consumers. Make sure to provide links on your website to the social media sites you use.
c.) Be sure you consistently keep your social media accounts updated. Aim for every two weeks.
d.) Try keeping a calendar to reference what days you plan to update your social media. Write down what will need to be changed and how you plan to carry things out.
