THE IDEA

The person who took the leap to start this business is the same person facing today’s hard decision. The courage didn’t go anywhere.

Think back to the day you decided to go out on your own. Maybe you quit a steady job. Maybe you sent your first proposal, bought your first piece of equipment or told your family what you were planning. Whatever it was, you did something most people only talk about. You took a real risk with no guarantee it would work.

After a few years in business, that moment can feel far away. The days fill up with routine work, and the big decisions start to feel heavier. Raising your prices. Letting go of a difficult client. Trying a new service. Reaching out to a bigger client you’ve been nervous to approach. You hesitate, and you start to wonder whether you’ve lost the nerve you used to have.

You haven’t. You just haven’t needed it in a while. The courage it took to start a business doesn’t wear off. It’s the same courage you’d need for any of today’s hard decisions, and most of those are smaller than the one you already made.

In fact, you’re in a better position now than you were then. When you started, you had no clients, no track record and no proof it would work. Now you have experience, results and people who trust you. The risk you’re facing today is smaller, and you’re better prepared for it.

The hesitation is normal. Every meaningful decision in a business comes with some fear. The difference is that you already know what it feels like to be afraid and go ahead anyway. You’ve done it before, and the business you have now is the result.

This week

Write down the decision you’ve been putting off because it feels risky. Next to it, write down the decision you made when you started your business. Compare the two honestly. Then take the first small step on the one you’ve been avoiding before Friday.
