Three of my favorite questions are:

  1. Where are you?
  2. Where do you want to go?
  3. How are you going to get there?

If I can have someone identify where they are and where they want to go, then I know how I can help them get there – OR – if I can’t personally help them get there, I try to think of what can, who will, or what needs to happen to get them there.

People don’t buy from you because they understand what you do; People buy from you because they feel understood. We tend to do business with people we like. How you come across often depends on how your care comes across. It’s one thing to act like you care about helping someone; It’s another thing to actually care about helping people.

In trying to help others, I may have fine china, but it’s not fine china I keep to myself. The way I produce results is through GIVING. Even though there are people who are much smarter and more organized than me, oftentimes they just don’t seem to be very focused on giving.

Life tends to reward result-producing actions… not just talking about them. You don’t build a great reputation by talking about what you’re going to do; You build a great reputation by helping people.

The more you learn, listen, hear, and converse with people related to what works for them, what doesn’t, and what they want – the more you’re able to be the person who brings a solution to their pain. And when you do that, they will want you to be in their life.
