Gen Z is finding more happiness running small businesses than working traditional jobs—and the data backs it up. According to a VistaPrint survey, 94% of Gen Z entrepreneurs report being happy, compared to already high levels across all business owners. Overall, 84% of founders say they’re happy or very satisfied with their work and life.
One key reason is freedom. Many Gen Z entrepreneurs say they’re “much happier” because they have creative control over their work instead of climbing a corporate ladder. This autonomy allows them to build businesses around what they actually care about.
Happiness also increases over time. Entrepreneurs report growing satisfaction as their businesses scale and stabilize, with peak happiness occurring between years three and five. Growth, team-building, and momentum all contribute to that upward trend.
Another major factor is AI. A large majority of small business owners are using AI tools for tasks like marketing, writing, and problem-solving. This not only saves time but boosts confidence—70% believe they’ll grow their business in the next year, and 58% say AI has made them happier.
The big takeaway: for Gen Z, entrepreneurship isn’t just a career path—it’s a more fulfilling way to work, driven by independence, innovation, and long-term growth.
