When Joe interviewed Dan Sullivan and Peter Diamandis at The Genius Network Annual Event (watch the video), one idea they discussed was MINDSETS. Mindsets, practically applied, can be a game changer when it comes to your results and your growth.

One critical mindset Dan talks about is gratitude. Gratitude, according to Dan, is a PROACTIVE skill. Most people see it as reactive. For example, when someone does something for you, you may feel grateful. But Dan explains how you don’t have to wait to feel grateful because the word gratitude is related to the word APPRECIATION

Appreciation has both an emotional and economic sense to it. You can feel both appreciation towards someone or something – and – the word appreciation is related to how an asset, like land or real estate, appreciates. “What appreciation means is you give value to something,” says Dan. “I appreciate certain people and it creates such a higher value for them in my life.” Ultimately, this allows you to proactively go into your past and give greater value to your experience up to the present moment.

Another mindset Dan talks about is GENEROSITY. “If you truly believe in abundance, you will be generous with what you have without worrying about how you’re going to be paid back for it.” Dan goes on to say that while appreciation is related to the PAST, generosity is when you make a bet on the FUTURE. For example, you might be generous in a relationship because you believe it will get bigger and better in many ways. Anything you contribute to the relationship doesn’t require you to worry about what the return will be because you believe the return will be big.

Both appreciation and generosity work in tandem according to Dan. “I see people who are super intelligent, but not grateful. I see people who are very successful, but they aren’t generous. It’s like having all the hardware without any of the software. You need the software to make your way in the world.”

When you apply just a couple game changing mindsets – like appreciation and gratitude – you don’t have to worry about competing because you end up with so many opportunities for COLLABORATION. Your life and business become even more exciting and fun when it’s collaboration bringing you more growth and greater results.

So where do you start with these mindsets? Ask yourself:

  1. What’s one thing I will do to shift my mindset into more gratitude and generosity?
  2. What future results can I imagine achieving with both these mindsets?
  3. What’s the first action I’m going to take today to put the gratitude and generosity mindsets into action?
