My desire to want to connect people comes from the fact that I grew up very shy, introverted, and lonely. I wanted people to like me. My mother died when I was four, and my father never remarried. My father was tormented and a broken person when my mother passed away. I only heard “I love you” from my father when I was much older.

In high school I couldn’t even talk to people. I was afraid of talking. Truthfully, I didn’t have a very good childhood – and it sucked. What all this did was leave a big open hole I wanted to fill through CONNECTION.

I was always that kid where if I saw someone eating lunch by themselves, I would try and talk to them. If I saw kids picking on someone, I would try to interject, even though I didn’t have the physical strength or posturing. I didn’t (and don’t) like seeing people hurt. Feeling hurt myself led to not wanting to see other people hurt. I probably connect others because I like connection myself and it makes me feel good.

I was such a disconnected child and didn’t get much connection and love – so, I had to work really hard as an adult to try and make up for what I felt. Now, when someone expresses something they need, my brain immediately goes to, “How can I help this person?” I immediately try and think about what they could read, watch, listen to… or… connect them with someone they can talk to. And before I talk myself out of it, I take really quick action. I give VALUE ON THE SPOT.
