The truth is nothing useful in the world happens without SELLING and MARKETING. If your goal in selling is the same as my good friend, and Founder of Strategic Coach, Dan Sullivan’s definition of selling: “Getting someone intellectually engaged in a future result that is GOOD FOR THEM and getting them to emotionally committed to take action to achieve that result” – then you should get paid for that. Selling is unethical when the future result you’re getting someone involved in is NOT good for them. There are a lot of things sold under the umbrella of marketing that really doesn’t create value. However, most business wwners and entrepreneurs are really good people, working really hard to create value.

Interestingly, we live in a world where the people who don’t know how to do this will vilify you for it. So, you have to remember something my friend Dave Kekich says: “The source of lasting happiness can never come from outside yourself through consuming values – but only from within yourself by producing values. Producing more than you consume is the only justification for existence.”

If you produce more than your consumer, if you produce more value than your consumer, you should get rich and live a great life. And I don’t mean “get rich” only monetarily; I also mean it in enjoyment and happiness. And this doesn’t mean you won’t have enduring tradeoffs and suffering along the way. I don’t know of almost anyone that is kicking butt and taking names that hasn’t had TONS of adversity and has been kicked down quite a few times. Sometimes you just got to put teflon over what a lot of the world can present as the “right” or “wrong” way to live a life.
But as far as I’m concerned, as long as what you’re doing is expanding yourself and others, if you have money issues, just keep working on it.

There are a lot of people I’ve really helped because I’ve had the financial ability to do it. People who say money can’t buy happiness haven’t given enough of it away. The truth is money facilitates things and solves problems that lack of money creates. One of the best ways to engage with money, selling, marketing, and really anything, is get to a point where you can APPRECIATE it, RESPECT it and HONOR it.
