When Joe interviewed Naveen Jain at the Genius Network Annual Event (watch it here), Naveen shared how to execute on Moonshots. Moonshots are audacious ideas others believe are impossible. Yet, it’s those “impossible” ideas that can change the lives of billions of people. To discover your Moonshots, Naveen suggests asking yourself: If you had everything you could ever want – the money, the relationships, ideal health, and so on – what would you do with your life? Focusing on that can start bringing forth your calling and your Moonshots.

But even with an audacious Moonshot that could impact billions of people, how do you make it REAL?

When you have a big picture, Naveen says you should take each slice of it and start executing slice by slice. “What is the minimum viable product I can launch today that stays with the mission?” This is part of how you can start making your moonshot real. With that said, even as you execute you have to avoid the danger of what Naveen calls ‘the short game’.

The short game is when people lose sight of what they are trying to do as they execute.

For example, this can involve going after short-term money or a quick increase in status.

Naveen says to avoid getting distracted and never compromise what you stand for. “Selling things you don’t believe in or asking how you can build trust in someone in the quickest time so they buy your product is the short game.” The game you want to play is where you fall in love with your customer and make sure the person buying it is thrilled and delighted.

Naveen says one of the reasons he thinks Jeff Bezos has become so wealthy is because everyone who buys something from Amazon always knows no matter what happens with the product, they can return the product and Amazon will make things right. “That is actually taking care of your customer,” says Naveen. It’s focusing on delighting each customer which ultimately leads to changing millions (and then billions) of lives.

As Naveen says, “Imagine what you can do that can change the trajectory of humanity. Don’t focus on what the world is; Focus on what you want the world to be. What can you do that can impact the lives of a billion people? What is it you will die for and spend every day of your life living for?”
