We’ve all been exposed to at least one sci-fi story about how humans struggle to defeat a sentient supercomputer as it wreaks havoc on a now-obsolete world. Well — for now at least — it’s looking more and more like we’re going to be singing their praises instead of taking up arms against them. The future of business has always been rooted in the advance of technology, but now more than ever we’re beginning to see the unlimited capability of what the tech world has to offer.

The news has been filled in recent years with speculations on what the future will look like in the hands of major players in tech. Virtual reality, self-driving cars, and even a manned trip to Mars have been projected for the next few decades. One innovation, however, is now projected to change the life of the entrepreneur forever: artificial intelligence.

The highlight of Google’s I/O conference in mid-2018 was a display of the raw abilities of Google’s Duplex project. This specialized form of AI was curated specifically for helping the modern businessperson plan their upcoming appointments and meetings with ease. While there are sure to be more expansions on the project that cover many of the other facets of day-to-day life, for now Google’s Duplex AI deals mostly with being able to successfully book appointments while interacting in real time with employees on the other end of the phone. As an example, Duplex called and booked an appointment at a hair salon while fully conversing with the unsuspecting employee on the other end of the call. The crowd, understandably, went wild.

If that doesn’t give some indication as to the state of affairs between business and tech, then we don’t know what will. In a few short years we could be kicking back while our robotic personal assistant handles all of our interviews, meeting schedules, and so much more. The future is now, and we’re not looking back.
