Egos are designed to protect us. However, our egos often blind us from seeing how much of what we do is unnecessary.
Our egos can also direct us away from what our heart truly desires. Now, I’m not saying our egos are always bad. But until you lasso it, ride it, and harness it, your ego CAN hurt you. If you want to impact the masses, the highest and best use of your time is not to worry about impacting the masses. Start by impacting yourself. Impact your own family. Make a great living.
No one can say what your goals should or should not be, or what makes you happy or doesn’t make you happy. At the end of the day, you have to ask yourself: “Is my life working – or not?”
Important: There is no strategy behind “hustle”. Hustling is what you do when you need to get stuff going. After that, the hustle is, truthfully, a joke. Having said this, if you help the helpers, you can make a great impact on everyone else. And, first, help YOURSELF. You can’t fix the world with broken hands.
Much of the “guru business” is voyeurism. People watch YouTube. They watch Instagram. They watch podcasts, listen to interviews, and follow the Kardashians. Many people are voyeurs…
People pay to be voyeurs in lieu of taking action. If they didn’t, there would be no such thing as movies and sports. Now, some of the voyeurism is designed as learning so you can then go use what the person you’re listening to or watching is telling or showing you. BUT… a lot of people confuse accomplishment with attendance.
One of the things I say about 12-step groups is that 12-step groups are not attendance programs. When people say the meetings don’t work, it’s like saying gyms don’t work. Yeah, gyms don’t work if you just sit on the bench and don’t lift weights. But if you do the work, and start lifting the weights, get on the treadmill, or take the yoga class, you get better and stronger.
While accomplishment voyeurism is real, it’s important to remember that true accomplishment requires taking action and putting in the work. Whether it’s attending 12-step meetings or the gym, the only way to really progress forward is by putting in the effort.
