When you have certain behaviors happening in your company, you also want to simultaneously be TRACKING those behaviors. You want to have eyes on your actions. Everything costs money. And if it doesn’t cost money, it could cost time, energy, and so on. And a costly action you want to avoid is OVER-communicating.
Here’s what I mean: There was a time when I was running groups for carpet cleaners, and I was going through a very difficult time. I wasn’t in a good headspace, so I looked for some help running my company. I hired a woman to run my company, and she turned out to be a very bad person. She embezzled a lot of money from the company.
On top of that, she thought it would be a good idea to change the way we communicated. (We had a group that was $250/month called “2X+1”. Instead of doing a conference call once a month, she decided to do a conference call EVERY WEEK because it would be more value-add for the members.) What happened is we started having people drop out of the group, because they couldn’t make the calls every week.
No one complained that having calls every week was bad. Most people thought, “Wow, they are offering more value!” But in the process of trying to service the Client, we started losing many of them.
There is a SWEET SPOT of where and how you communicate with Clients and keep someone happy.
The only time you lose your Clients to a competitor is when you allow your competitors to pay more attention to your Clients than you do. So, your job is to not let other people pay more attention to your Clients than you do…and… do it in a way that delights your Clients. And, while you’re doing it, look at it as a scientific experiment and TRACK what is working, what isn’t working, and continually improve it all to produce even better results.
