I was always very distractible and wanted to do a million different things when I was young. I still am! But the more you can stick with learning a skill, the better.
There is a whole notion around ‘Follow Your Passion’ and ‘Do What You Love’. But what if nobody will pay you money for what you love doing? The more you can develop a skill no one else has that (as my buddy Cal Newport says) is “Rare and Valuable”, the more the world will pay attention to you when you start applying it in an area of your life.
A lot of people with talent are waiting to be discovered. Unless you are really lucky, people are often NOT discovered… unless they make themselves get discovered. If you have a valuable skill, people will notice you because you are valuable to them.
Ask yourself: What is a skill you can focus on that is rare and valuable? The more you stick with it, the more useful you get.
In fact, if you spend an hour a day on a particular skill for a couple years, you could be the best in the world in that area!
Imagine being the best in the world in a particular area that people want. People will not only pay attention to you, but they will also give you money and your contribution will make an impact.
