If you’ve been itching to travel again since the COVID-19 pandemic, you’re in luck — with the vaccine rolling out, more and more countries are opening their doors to U.S. tourists. However, if you want the experience to be as stress-free as possible, here are a couple tips to keep you feeling prepared and confident on your trip.
First, it’s best to visit just one or two countries until the virus is under better control. You may be tempted to explore multiple countries after being home so long, but it’s better to be careful. Plus, it’ll give you fewer COVID-19 restrictions to keep track of. Embrace slow travel and getting to know a new place.
Second, always check cancellation or change policies before booking flights and hotels. You don’t want to be caught unprepared if a travel interruption occurs. Most travel insurance doesn’t cover cases in relation to COVID-19, so you’ll want to choose an airline with a policy that does. Also, inquire about seating protocols to make sure you’ll be comfortable and safe on your flight.
Third, make sure you have a COVID-19 test within the required time restrictions before your flight. Nasal tests are quick, easy, and admittedly a tiny bit uncomfortable — but only for a fraction of a second. This is the most important part of your traveling experience because, without a negative COVID-19 test, you won’t be able to get to your destination.
Fourth, make sure you have enough masks and hand sanitizer for the whole trip. Mask mandates vary, and you don’t want to be caught in a situation where you can’t get a hold of a mask while traveling.
