As an entrepreneur and business owner, it is a growing importance to learn how to differentiate the benefits of hiring an employee or a gig worker. Employee hiring has been the traditional method of employment for nearly every industry through history. This creates an uncertain appeal to hiring gig workers, and though there are benefits to their acquisition, there is also benefits in taking on traditional employees instead.
A gig worker should be considered closer to an entrepreneur than an employee, hence the demand for their flexible time and skillsets. Gig workers are amazing outlets for resources in early stages of companies that do not have the finances or facilities to hire full-time or part-time employees. Their flexible hours allow the minimization of idle time that could be optimized somewhere else in the workflow. Gig workers also require no benefits from their employers. The ability to not have to provide packages of benefits appeals greatly to small and/or upcoming businesses.
If these don’t fit to your necessities, traditional employees may be a better fit for your company. Employees provide more loyalty and specialty tasks to your workflow. When hiring gig workers, it would be difficult to teach them everything they are required to do when doing a more skillful task. The risk of hiring and teaching multiple gig workers on a regular basis is not ideal when an employee could learn and execute all those tasks proficiently over their course of employment. Employees’ loyalty is far stronger and even capable of growing in a company that they feel valued in, especially if that job helped them to grow in the ranks throughout their time there.
There are multiple options when employing, including gathering a mix of gig workers and employees. Transitioning interns into employees is also a cost-effective way to teach and hire newer recruits. Nonetheless, traditional employment is not the only option. With careful consideration and weighing of options, your company can find the best distribution between gig workers and employees that works best for you.
