In an economy like ours today, gaining and keeping employees seems to be more and more of a challenge. As a startup business owner, chances are you are already taking big risks and prioritizing the business above yourself. In order to gain and keep employees, I would encourage you to stay uncomfortable. By that I mean, keep taking those risks and sacrifices to make your business successful.

Be competitive

Even as a startup, it is important to be competitive in your employee wage and benefits. If employee wages cannot afford to rise, consider offering bonuses for your employees to work towards.

Have proper training

Every employee from the moment they are hired should be well prepared, trained, and equipped for their job position. The transition should be smooth and as slow as necessary.

Maintain healthy communication

As a startup business, be open to your employees’ ideas, concerns, or questions. After all, an entrepreneur should always be reaching to improve their business. Positive communication from a team leader will make all the difference in an employment atmosphere.

Promote work-life balance

In order for employees to truly be happy in their field of work, they must feel understood as a person outside of the office as well. Encourage employees to take their vacation time. Get to know your employees outside of work. Promote team work by creating opportunities for collaboration and growth.

Keeping employees happy can be a challenge; hold your head high. Celebrate all the small and large milestones in your startup business and remember… This is just the start!
