In case you have not noticed, there are “HELP WANTED” signs in almost every storefront today. That would be because America is experiencing a labor shortage. This means businesses are desperate for help. Because of this, owners have lowered their standards or even hired someone completely unfit for the job. Even in a labor shortage, hiring the right people is possible!

Come up with incentives

As sad as it is, getting people through your door takes a lot of marketing and incentives. As much as your budget allows, keep your wages and benefits competitive.

Be creative

When interviewing someone, find unique ways to find out how a person truly thinks. Try straying away from “strengths and weaknesses” and give the interviewee a scenario which they may have to act on.

Build a relationship

A major factor in determining whether a person is right for your company is how they get along with the other employees. Give them an office tour. Introduce them to others in the office or even pull in a trusted employee during the interview process.

Get out of the office

Incentives were mentioned above, take your candidate out for lunch! Getting someone away from an office setting will show you how they react in everyday life. How they treat a server, eye contact, and overall manners will show through. If you are lucky, maybe they will even bump into someone they know.

Getting candidates to interview may be difficult today; however, having an interviewing process that is thorough and appealing is guaranteed to secure you a steady employee.
